• Welcome to Township High School District 214 Summer Experience at John Hersey High School

    Second Session: July 8 to July 25, 2024

    Here you will find information regarding the logistics, expectations, and procedures that will guide our summer experience program. Please know it is our goal that all students to achieve and succeed in summer coursework, and we are here to support you and them through this experience.


    We are looking forward to having your students in class at John Hersey High School.  The name of the course your student is registered for can be found in the notice that directed you to this webpage.

    Summer Experience Session 2 schedule is below: 

    Week 1
    Monday, July 8 – Thursday, July 11: 7:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

    Week 2
    Monday, July 15 – Thursday, July 18: 7:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

    Week 3
    Monday, July 22 – Thursday, July 25: 7:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.



    Food and drinks are not allowed in the classrooms.  One 15-minute break will be provided each day for students to consume refreshments.  

    Students are encouraged to bring their own snacks to be eaten during this time. The District is providing a daily “grab and go” snack, along with juice and fruit, available to all students at break time, and vending machine items will also be available for purchasing snacks.


    Students should bring an I.D. (8th graders will receive their IDs on the first day of class), notebook, folder, paper, pen, and pencil every day to class. Students should bring their fully-charged iPads to school each day. 

    Incoming Freshmen will receive their iPads on the first day of summer coursework.


    A school nurse is on-site and available each day, during summer school.



    John Hersey High School will be open for regular summer coursework students from 7:15 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. daily.  Students waiting for classes to begin should remain in the main hallway. All summer students are expected to leave promptly at the end of the class session.

    Parent Drop Off: Front of JHHS, Door 1
    Bus Drop Off: West Side JHHS, Enter Building at Door 1
    Students Driving Themselves: Student Parking Lot, Door 1 or 32


    Bus stop information is available via the Parent/Student Portal in Infinite Campus under the Transportation Tab.  You will also receive an email providing this information.

    We ask that you please be at your bus stop 5-10 minutes before your scheduled pick-up time.

    A bus pass is required to ride the bus. The bus pass will be integrated into the chip in your student’s school ID.  Incoming Freshmen will receive their school ID/bus pass on the first day of class. 

    Students will be allowed to ride the bus without a student ID/bus pass on the first day.

    The cost of replacing a student ID/bus pass is $5.00.  If students give their pass to someone else, it will be revoked.  Buses depart JHHS daily at 12:40 p.m.




    Students are expected to attend the entirety of summer school each day. Due to the intense concentration of the summer coursework curriculum, students who are absent for more than two (2) days will be withdrawn and will need to complete their coursework at a later date and time.


    Students are expected to be on time for class each day. Students who are tardy will be required to obtain an “admit” pass from the dean or the summer experience administrative assistant. Tardiness can also lead to dismissal from summer coursework, so it is important to arrive at school on time as well as return from each break promptly.


    1. Full day absence: Any absence in excess of two hours on a given day.
    2. 1/2 day absence: Arriving to class between 15 minutes to 2 hours late, either at the beginning of the day or returning from any class break. Leaving class between 15 minutes to 2 hours early.
    3. Tardy to class: Arriving to class up to 15 minutes late, either at the beginning of the day or returning from any class break. Students accumulating three (3) tardies in a session will receive a 1/2 day absence.

    Student absences must be reported the day the student misses class. 

    In the event of inclement weather, students may be required to attend a make-up day.


    Final exams may be given on the last day of summer school, July 25th. Students are expected to be in class on the last day of the session.  Students may not take their final exams early.


    During summer school, John Hersey High School is a closed campus.  Students are not to leave campus or be in the parking lot for any reason.  Students may not leave campus or go to their cars during class breaks. 

    Failure to adhere to closed campus rules may result in dismissal from summer coursework without a refund of tuition.  


    Cheating, plagiarism, stealing another student’s assignment, book or notes, are serious breaches of District 214’s standards of academic integrity.  Academic dishonesty may result in disciplinary action, including dismissal from summer school without a refund.

    We in District 214 consider your students’ success our own, and we are committed to providing them with the best possible experience in Summer Experience 2024.
