D214 students excel in State Journalism competition
District 214 students’ success in the annual IHSA Journalism competition has continued, with eight students placing in the State Finals. Prospect High School earned third place in the overall Team Sweepstakes, finishing behind only Huntley and Stevenson high schools.
Two Prospect seniors earned state titles in individual competition. Mara Nicolaie won in Advertising for the second consecutive time, and Elizabeth Keane won in Newspaper Design. Nicolaie also took fourth place in Editorial Cartooning, while Prospect seniors Zoe Smutko and Claudia Kirby earned second place in Yearbook Theme Development and junior Claire Graver took sixth place in Yearbook Copy Editing.
Buffalo Grove High School senior Zoey Heinrich placed third in Copy Editing, and freshman Sofia Horwitz placed sixth in Infographics. Six other Buffalo Grove students advanced from Sectional to State competition. Elk Grove High School junior Gavin Ewin placed sixth in Sports Writing in State competition, while three other Elk Grove students competed at State.
