Resources for Freshman/Sophomores

College Rep Visits: Ongoing (currently virtually only for Fall 2020!)
College admissions representatives come to JHHS in the fall and spring for 1-period visits to share information about their institution. While most fall visits are geared towards seniors, spring visits are usually more general in nature and can be attended by anyone (though students are encouraged to wait until at least sophomore year). A full list of visiting reps can be found in Naviance. If students are interested in attending and have a class that period, they need to pick up a blue pass in the CCC in advance and have it signed by a teacher for attendance purposes (when we have in-person visits).
Career Visits: Ongoing (Look for virtual options this fall, including on our Career Chats and Career Panels website)
Similar to college rep visits, Career Visits are 1-period opportunities for students from all grade levels to hear from someone in a particular career field or about a particular career field. Freshmen and sophomores are especially encouraged to attend! Process of attending is the same as for a college rep – pick up a blue pass in advance from the CCC and get it signed by that period’s teacher!
District 214 Events
Career Nights
District 214 Career Nights are held each year in September and October. While many of our students plan to go to college immediately after high school, we find this type of career exploration encourages stronger high school grades as students understand the link between their coursework and their ultimate goals. It also helps students begin to identify potential interests, internships, jobs and college majors, which helps in the college search process. Please encourage your son or daughter to attend at least one Career Night a year during the first two years of high school.
