Crime and Punishment

by Fyodor Dostoevsky Year Published:

Right now I’m reading Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky. This is the first book by him I’m reading (I’ve read a few of his short stories, though, and I highly, highly recommend White Nights). I’m only about 70 pages in, but the book is about a university dropout in St. Petersburg named Raskolnikov. He’s poor and is planning to kill a pawnbroker — an old lady whom nobody likes but it fairly wealthy — for money. I really like it so far; the characters are very interesting and there’s a lot of social and philosophical commentary that just makes you want to keep reading.
