Under the broader umbrella of District 214’s Specialized Schools, life’s goal is to equip these students to transition into working life at age 22. “Our job is to assess where students’ skills and interests are, to develop goals and to give them experiences that will allow them to attain postsecondary employment,” explains Valerie Norris, Specialized Schools principal.

The District 214 Board of Education took a significant step in supporting the future of public education by approving the Vision 2030 resolution, a statewide initiative aimed at transforming K-12 education in Illinois. The initiative focuses on ensuring students are prepared for the changing world, while promoting a safe and connected learning environment.
Tim Johnson knew from an early age that he liked working with his hands. No surprise there: His dad is, by Tim’s description, “a heck of a carpenter,” as is his grandfather, both of whom taught him the fundamentals. A career in the trades always seemed like his eventual destination.
District 214 is calling for submissions to the annual Daily Herald and District 214 Arts Unlimited Art and Writing Contest. Submissions will be accepted through March 3.
