• The philosophy of the Dean’s office is to cultivate a safe, orderly, and effective environment that promotes mutual respect and encourages citizenship to enhance students’ academic success and prepare them to be responsible, contributing members of society.

    Detentions
    Detentions may be served on regular school days from 3:10-4:30 p.m. There are no detentions on exam days or early dismissal days. Lunch detentions are also assigned when appropriate, at the dean’s discretion.  Saturday detentions are assigned on selected Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Students can be assigned a 4-hour detention.  Students will arrive at Door 29 by 7:55 a.m. as that door will close at 8:00 a.m. All detentions are assigned in an attempt to improve student behaviors. Failure to serve detentions may result in additional consequences.

    Bullying Policy
    Bullying and/or intimidation of others may include but is not limited to any repetitive, aggressive, or harmful gesture or written, verbal, or physical act that places another student in reasonable fear of harm to his or her person or property or that has the effect of insulting or demeaning any student in such a way as to disrupt or interfere with the school's educational mission. Examples of bullying behavior include pushing, hitting, threatening, name-calling, or other physical or verbal conduct of a belittling nature. Such behavior often occurs when a student asserts physical or psychological power over or is cruel to another student perceived as weaker. Schools are charged with providing a learning environment free from intimidation. The school environment includes any situation with a close connection to the school, including, without limitation, situations that occur on school premises, during travel to and from school, or during attendance at school-related activities. Bullying and intimidation can constitute gross disobedience or misconduct and result in disciplinary consequences up to and including expulsion.

    ELECTRONIC DEVICES PROCEDURES:
    Electronic Signaling Devices
    Students may not use or possess personal electronic signaling devices or two-way radios on school property.
    Cell Phones and Other Electronic Devices
    The possession and use of cell phones and other electronic devices are subject to the following protocols:
    1.      They may not be used in a manner that will disrupt the educational environment or violate student conduct rules.
    2.      Buildings may designate specific areas in the school where cell phones and other electronic devices may be used during times other than a student’s instructional schedule during a regularly scheduled school day.
    3.      Students may use their cell phones in the classroom, computer labs, library, and study halls according to teacher discretion.
    4.      Students shall be personally responsible for security of their cell phone or other electronic devices.  The district assumes no responsibility for theft, loss, or damage of such devices.
    5.      Students who fail to comply with the policy and procedures regarding the possession and use of cell phones and other electronic devices shall be subject to consequences:
    A referral will be written, and alternative disciplinary action, including, but not limited to, the loss of privileges and the assignment of detentions, may be imposed when deemed appropriate by the administration.
    Consequences for violating the Academic Integrity Policy are separate from, and in addition to, those assigned for violating the Electronic Devices Policy and Procedures.
    Students using electronic devices for unlawful purposes will be disciplined according to the district’s standard discipline policy and/or referred to law enforcement agencies, where appropriate.
    6.      Students who fail to comply with the policy will be disciplined according to the district’s standard discipline policy and /or referred to law enforcement agencies, where appropriate.
    7.      Consequences for violating the Academic Integrity Policy are separate from, and in addition to, those assigned with violating the Electronic Devices Policy and Procedures.
    8.      Students using electronic devices for unlawful purposes will be disciplined according to the district’s standard discipline policy and/or referred to law enforcement agencies, where appropriate.
    9.      Consequences leading up to and including suspension and expulsion will be considered for any students using electronic devices, including a cell phone, any other electronic device to take or transmit digital photographic images, pictures, or movies of an individual or individuals without their consent anywhere on school grounds or during a school-related activity.
    10.      Consequences leading up to suspension and expulsion will be considered for students using any electronic device, including a cell phone or any other electronic device, to take or transmit audio recordings of an individual or individuals without their consent anywhere on school grounds or during a school-related activity.
    11.      Illinois Criminal Code (720 ILCS 5/260-4) – It is unlawful for any person to knowingly videotape, photograph, or film another person without that person’s consent in locker rooms, changing rooms, restrooms, etc.  Standard disciplinary procedures will apply.
    12.      Electronic devices may not be used for creating, sending, sharing, viewing, receiving, or possessing indecent visual depictions or non-consensual dissemination of private sexual images as defined in State law, i.e., sexting. Possession is prohibited regardless of whether the depiction violates State law.  Cellular or electronic devices may be searched upon reasonable suspicion of sexting or other policy violations.  All sexting violations will require school administrators to follow student discipline policies in addition to contacting the police and reporting suspected child abuse or neglect when appropriate.
