Research shows that a range of cognitive benefits come with learning a second or third language. In our globalized economy, bilingualism also comes with concrete benefits for job-seekers. At Wheeling High School, students have the opportunity of learning French, Italian, and Spanish. Several levels are taught for all of these languages to allow students a path toward fluency and literacy, including courses for heritage learners of Spanish.
Wheeling High School students take human geography as freshmen, world history or economics and U.S. government as sophomores, and U.S. history as juniors. Students have the opportunity to take a range of electives in social science. At the Advanced Placement level, these electives include U.S. government and politics, economics, psychology, and European history. Additional electives cover law, sociology, and psychology.
