District 214 IHSA Activities Registration

  • D214 CO-CURRICULAR CODE OF CONDUCT

The Co-Curricular Programs provide a wide variety of sports/activities to match a wide spectrum of talents and interests and to develop sportsmanship and a positive spirit of competition.

Individuals competing in an IHSA sanctioned sport/activity must abide by the IHSA eligibility by-laws. To ensure the proper atmosphere for competition, the student and his/her parent(s) or guardian(s) must understand and cooperate in helping establish that atmosphere by season for violating any of the following standards: (1) falsification of a physician’s signature on the athletic permit; (2) use, possession, or distribution of alcohol or tobacco or the abuse of any controlled substance; (3) theft or destruction of property; (4) repeated activities.

Finally, all students are subject to the provisions of the District 214 Co-Curricular Code.

IHSA HATE SPEECH AND HARASSMENT POLICY

    • If contest officials/judges witness hate speech or an act of harassment, it shall be penalized by an IMMEDIATE EJECTION.
    • If contest officials/judges do not witness hate speech or an act of harassment, the target will inform their coach/sponsor of what happened.
    • Coach/sponsor tells the official/judge and stops the competition. The official/judge meets with the alleged offender and the opposing coach/sponsor.
    • If admittance, ejection from contest, suspension from next contest and subject to school discipline for hate speech. If the official hears the use of hate speech, they must submit written documentation of what they heard to be included in the IHSA special report.
    • If not admittance, remind the student of the consequences.
      • Target is informed and told to continue telling the coach/sponsor if the offense continues. The coach/sponsor continues to inform the official/judge and opposing coach/sponsor during a natural break in competition.
    • Coaches/Sponsors inform the school administrator within 24 hours of the incident.
    • The school administrator meets with any student identified as possibly using hate speech or alleging the use of hate speech, and the other school administrator meets with the target.
    • If nothing is said until after the contest, the coach/sponsor informs the school administrator, who relays information to the opposing school administrator. Both school administrators meet with participants and communicate their findings back to the other school administrator.
    • The school administrator informs the IHSA Administrator of the incident and documents the incident using the IHSA Special Report for
      Hate Speech and Harassment option.
