Seal of Biliteracy Assessment Information
Students at District 214 have the opportunity to be recognized by the State of Illinois for earning proficiency in English and an additional language. The Illinois State Board of Education's Seal of Biliteracy Program will place an official seal on diplomas and official recognition will be placed on transcripts of students who qualify. Illinois public post-secondary institutions must grant university language credit to recipients of the Seal of Biliteracy.
Students who do not meet Intermediate high, but who demonstrate a proficiency of Intermediate low can receive a notation of Commendation.What are the specific requirements to qualify for the Seal of Biliteracy or Commendation?
Students must demonstrate both English proficiency and proficiency in another language other than English. The specific score requirements are listed on the PDF below:

- The AAPPL Form B: Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin), French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish.
- The Avant Stamp 4S: American Sign Language (ASL), Hebrew, Hindi, and Polish.

The Language exams are digital assessments taken on the student's iPad. The language exams test students in listening, reading, writing and speaking. District 214 offers both a fall and spring test window.
Fall Language Testing Details:
Your high school will offer language testing in the fall during the school day. After registration closes, your World Language Social Science Division Head will contact you with more information about the exact dates and times of testing at your school.
Test window: October 8 - November 12, 2024
Each high school will pick a testing date(s) for their school, within the test window. Students may not pick a specific test date on their own.Cost: $25

Test results will be emailed to students and parents/guardians in December.
