WildStangs Win! D214 students and robot advance
Robots may–or may not–someday rule the world. In the meantime, designing and operating them for crowd-pleasing competition provide multifaceted and high-value learning for high school students. District 214 students have been demonstrating that for 28 years through the District’s WildStang Robotics teams, two of which competed and one of which captured first place on March 11 in the Midwest Regional FIRST Robotics Competition at UIC.

Serafin Fund aids adult students’ American dream
Every American has an origin story. And while the locations of our origins shift over time, the power of these stories never recedes. The Serafin Fund is awarded annually by the District 214 Education Foundation to help immigrants in becoming U.S. citizens.

Rolling Meadows’ Eileen Hart named Illinois High School Principal of the Year
Excitement filled the theater at Rolling Meadows High School. Colleagues and family members watched a surprise announcement Friday as Eileen Hart was named the Illinois High School Principal of the Year by the Illinois Principals Association. The annual Horace Mann/IPA High School Principal of the Year Award recognizes principals who have demonstrated a positive impact on their students and learning community.

District 214 recognizes volunteers, supporters with Distinguished Service Awards
The Board of Education for High School District 214 has honored eight individuals with the District’s 2022-23 Distinguished Service Awards. The awards are presented annually to people—community partners, parents, volunteers and others—who have made significant contributions to the District and its students.

Hersey hoops duo reflect on 25 years of excellence
Together, they celebrated more than 530 wins, 24 winning seasons, more than a dozen regional titles and two trips to the IHSA Final Four. But for Mary Fendley and Julia Barthel, 25 years of coaching John Hersey High School’s girls’ basketball team was never really about the numbers. For head coach Fendley and assistant coach Barthel, who coached their last games in March, success was measured differently.

Students celebrate Asian heritage through ASA Showcase
District 214's inaugural Asian Student Association Showcase was held at Buffalo Grove High School. The event was student-led and featured free food from local restaurants and performances from all across Asia.

District 214 Community Education celebrates 75 years of excellence
When Arlington Heights Township High School announced its evening classes for adults in 1947, Principal LeRoy Knoeppel wrote that adult education helps “enable a person more efficiently to meet his personal needs, problems or desires” and “more effectively to participate as an intelligent functioning member of society.” As the District 214 Community Education program celebrates 75 years of classes, those basic goals have never changed.

“Everyday is Black History” celebration
Buffalo Grove High School hosted the District's first “Everyday is Black History” celebration. All District 214 Ebony Clubs and Black Student Unions participated to honor African American history and their continued legacy.
