District 214 approves Vision 2030 resolution for educational excellence

Published January 24, 2025

The District 214 Board of Education took a significant step in supporting the future of public education by approving the Vision 2030 resolution, a statewide initiative aimed at transforming K-12 education in Illinois. The initiative focuses on ensuring students are prepared for the changing world, while promoting a safe and connected learning environment.

Vision 2030 is based on three core priorities:

  • Future-Focused Learning: Reshaping schools and classrooms to better prepare students for the evolving world and economy, fostering skills that support college and career exploration, improving student safety and well-being, and attracting and retaining a high-quality, diverse educator workforce.

  • Shared Accountability: Expanding the scope beyond standardized tests to more fairly and effectively measure student success, focusing on both growth and proficiency over time. The initiative also seeks to reform the accountability system to allow local flexibility in identifying indicators that provide a more comprehensive view of student success.

  • Predictable Funding: Ensuring long-term, sustainable funding for excellent educational resources and future-focused learning opportunities. It includes protecting the evidence-based funding formula, strengthening public education through pension reforms, and establishing equitable funding sources for capital and safety needs.

Vision 2030 is a statewide effort led by the Illinois Association of School Boards (IASB) and the Illinois Association of School Administrators (IASA), in collaboration with a broad coalition of education leaders, policymakers, and community stakeholders. The initiative is designed to equip students with the skills and resources they need to thrive in a rapidly changing world. It is supported by school districts, educators, business leaders, and advocacy groups, all committed to ensuring equitable and effective educational opportunities for every student.

The resolution is the result of extensive collaboration across Illinois, with input from over 1,000 stakeholders, including local school leaders. It is designed to empower districts to share successful strategies and best practices while maintaining local control over curriculum and decision-making.

District 214 is proud to be part of this statewide movement aimed at enhancing educational opportunities for all students. For more information on supporting the goals of Vision 2030, visit IllinoisVision2030.com.
