Concurrent Enrollment

  • In addition to Advanced Placement (AP) and dual credit courses, District 214 offers other ways to earn early college credit.

District 214 Early College Center (ECC)

District 214 seniors have the opportunity to participate in an innovative education partnership between District 214 and Arizona State University by enrolling in an online program that will earn them up to 16 early college credits.

The program, located in the Early College Center at Forest View Educational Center, offers students an eight-week course every quarter, as well as a self-paced math course, with supplemental support from District 214 teachers. Seniors from across the district come together in a cohort as Arizona State University students, earning college credit while collecting Advanced Placement-weighted credit for these classes toward high school graduation.

The online courses include College Algebra, PreCalculus, English 101, English 102, Introduction to Solar Systems and Social Science electives such as Sociology 101 and Health & Wellness. The District 214 Education Foundation subsidizes a portion of the cost of these courses so students can earn these credits at a reduced rate, helping their families save money on college.

The Early College Center is open to District 214 seniors with the demonstrated ability to work independently and succeed in college-level work. Selection for this program is based on student interest, academic readiness and a counselor recommendation.

    Independent Concurrent Enrollment

Outside the school day or during the summer, a student can independently enroll at Harper College to complete college-level coursework prior to high school graduation. Additionally, upon completing the course, the student can request that high school credit be granted even if the course is not offered or sponsored by the District.

To enroll in concurrent enrollment at Harper, students must be at least 16 years old or have junior- or senior-level status in high school and a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale. Qualified high school students can enroll in one or two courses as a concurrent student with Harper College advisor approval but may not enroll as a full-time student (12 or more credit hours) in any semester. Approval for concurrent enrollment will be contingent on prerequisites for the course(s) being met, including any minimum required score on the college placement exam or ACT/SAT exam.
